About me
As the President of the Delta Sierra Section of CASCWA and the past Chairperson of the State SARB, I have had the opportunity to evaluate many Model SARB programs. One of the characteristics all Model SARBs have in common is resources to help motivate unmotivated students and improve engagement. One of the most flexible tools for building this student resilience is the WhyTry Program. I enjoy sharing different ways the WhyTry Program can be integrated into a Model SARB program that improves student attendance and reduces the number of dropouts. I will show how the WhyTry curriculum utilizes a series of visual metaphors to teach essential life skills to referred students who have persistent school attendance or school behavior problems.
